Certificate of Excellence

The BOMA Certificate of Excellence is backed by a rigorous certification program that involves a written submission and an on-site visit. Information to be included and scored includes: building management and operations, community impact, tenant relations, energy and environment management, emergency preparedness and the training of building personnel.

Certification

Certification is based on meeting a minimum point score (70%). Entrants must meet standards in building management, operations and design, tenant relations and community impact, energy management and conservation, environmental, regulatory and sustainability initiatives, and the training of building personnel. Every building submitted for certification is subject to a building inspection. Certification must be renewed every three years to ensure that the standard of excellence is maintained and is valid for a three year term as long as the property owner or management firm does not change.

Awards

The Certificate of Excellence Program is aligned with the BOMA Canada and BOMA International TOBY (The Outstanding Building of the Year) Awards Program requirements. The highest scoring certification in each category will receive a BOMA Toronto TOBY Award. Awards will also be presented in three non-TOBY categories [Industrial Office Building (Single), Public Assembly Building, and Shopping Centre]. All award winners will have their Certificates of Excellence valid for five years instead of three and their banners will acknowledge their achievement.

To Apply

Applicants are asked to forward a completed Certificate of Excellence Program Registration Form and $500.00 (plus HST) per building registration fee to BOMA Toronto.  The fee includes one ticket to the annual BOMA Toronto Celebration of Excellence Dinner. Once received, applicants will be forwarded a Certification Guidebook outlining details of the formal submission.

Recognition

A celebration recognizing the people and companies that have met the standard will take place at the annual BOMA Toronto Celebration of Excellence Dinner. Certification plaques, congratulatory banners, and BOMA Toronto TOBY Awards will be presented.  The individual(s) submitting the building/facility will be recognized along with building/facility personnel who ensure this high standard of excellence is achieved.
