BOMA BEST/Earth Award

BOMA BEST® CASE STUDY: NORTH YORK GENERAL HOSPITAL

For North York General Hospital (NYGH), clean air and sustainable energy are not only important for the health of the planet, but for the health of its patients and their families.

The hospital’s continued efforts in improving overall energy efficiency and its waste diversion programs were recently recognized with a BOMA BEST® Silver Level Certification.

NYGH is the first hospital in Ontario to achieve this certification and as a result of becoming a leader in the health sector, it has also received a 2016 BOMA Toronto Earth Award.

“Receiving the BOMA Best Silver certification is really a testament to our focus over the past few years to make a green impact to our community and is a result of our staff thinking outside the box to find ways to conserve our resources,” President and CEO of North York General Hospital, Dr. Tim Rutledge said.

“These partnerships have not only had a positive impact on the environment, but our ‘green’ journey has also helped us achieve significant financial savings. We have been able to reinvest those savings back into the hospital’s infrastructure, which will directly impact the care environments for our patients and their families,” he added.

BOMA BEST® - Building Environmental Standards is Canada’s leading green certification program for existing buildings. BOMA BEST® measures and recognizes superior environmental performance and operations of buildings across Canada. BOMA BEST® is administered by the Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada.
